Burger King, Barbican Road, Jamaica
A complete transformation from the concrete shell that previously
existed. Renovated to accommodate a fast food restaurant,
the design attracts the attention of passers-by with its inviting
colours and deliberate exposure of internal activities through
the double glazed front facade.
This site was significantly improved by lowering the grade
to road level, resulting in a more inviting and accessible
space. The existing concrete block construction was complemented
with a new steel frame construction, which accommodated the
playroom and dining room extensions.
To protect these elevations from the southern solar exposure,
two(2) layers of awnings were introduced, which provide efficient
shading for this facade.
Both the original and new concrete block walls were finished
with locally produced textured coat, which provided a consistent
and integrated finish for both old and new construction.
The ground floor dining room is shaped with the double high
play environment which emphasizes the concept of the building.
This renovation has changed the look of the immediate area
and has brought new and greater interest within the community.
